Mayor of Hackney by-election
This election was held on Thursday 9 November 2023.
-
The Mayor of Hackney is elected to lead Hackney Borough Council. The Mayor chairs the council cabinet, directs the council's strategy, and sets the council budget. The Mayor's decisions can only be overturned by a two-thirds majority of councillors.
The way you vote for your mayor has changed. Following the introduction of the Elections Act in May this year, Mayoral elections are now conducted using First Past the Post. This means you can only vote for one candidate, and not two as in previous elections. Learn more on the website of the Electoral Commission.
You can find more information about this election on the website of Hackney Council.
6 candidates stood in the London Borough of Hackney mayoral election.
