Full statement

These are also the values I stand for, and they will guide my work as your County Councillor.

A Labour-led Cambridgeshire County Council will work with the Labour Government, Labour Mayor of the Combined Authority, and local Labour City Councillors to deliver real change.

As Your County Councillor, I Will Focus On Tackling the Cost of Living Crisis for those in Queen Edith’s who are struggling with rising rents, soaring bills, and transport costs.

The Labour group will ensure that council resources are targeted at supporting those in need, and helping people through tough times with practical solutions as none of us know what is round the corner in our lives especially as we get older.

Queen Edith’s is a rapidly changing area, and we need to ensure that development is planned responsibly. I will work to tackle rogue landlords, ensure proper infrastructure for new developments, and support affordable housing initiatives without changing the identity of this wonderful part of Cambridge as I can see that residents already work hard to ensure that it is a vibrant place to live, work and enjoy.

Labour is committed to better transport options—including improved cycling infrastructure, better buses, and road repairs.

I will fight for better public transport links to Addenbrooke’s, the Biomedical Campus, and the city centre so that local people can get where they need to go, affordably and reliably.

Labour will ensure Cambridgeshire takes meaningful action on the climate crisis by supporting sustainable development, investing in renewable energy, and protecting our green spaces.

I will work to oppose overdevelopment, support tree planting and flood prevention, and ensure that Queen Edith’s remains a green, livable community.

A Labour led County Council will invest in better schools, improved special education services including enhanced resource bases, ensuring all schools are neurodivergent friendly, and that there is fairer funding for all pupils.

A Labour led County Council will fight for better access to NHS dentists, GPs, and mental health services, especially for families and older residents.

We will ensure older and disabled residents receive the care and support they need to live independently and with dignity.

For too long, Queen Edith’s has been left without a strong voice on the County Council. I will listen, take action, and deliver real change for local people.

As you know, Cambridgeshire County Council is responsible for education, social care, transport, public health, and environmental protection—services that impact every aspect of daily life. Labour will make sure these services are properly funded and work for those who need them most. Together, we can build a stronger, fairer, and greener Queen Edith’s. Elect me, Janet O’Keefe, to be your County Council Candidate, and let’s make a difference for this wonderful community which I believe could lead the way in showing how things could be achieved across the UK to enhance all of our quality of life."
