Statement to voters

What a time to be standing as a member of the Conservative Party.

Full statement

.. I ask that you look past the flag and see the person as Original Conservative values are unchanged, and they resonate deeply with me. "Traditional Conservative values are based on a belief in personal responsibility, accountable government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional family values, and strong national defense. Conservatives value self-help, hard work, pride in their country, and free enterprise. Conservatives aim to uphold and safeguard the moral order, the rule of law and the dignified institutions and traditions of society." So when, how and why did central government deviate so wildly from the core values? I don't have the answers and it saddens me that we are being let down so consistently by so few. However, that does not stop us from successfully applying these core values out in the regions, to bring stability and meet community expectations. This is my aim, to join the solid, supportive, knowledgeable group of existing Councillors in our borough and make our piece of the country a more enjoyable place to be. On occasion Daily life can be exhausting, tiresome, frustrating - plain scary even, at these times you need strong and resourceful advocates to ensure your voice is heard and your needs are met. I work full time, for the NHS in a non-clinical role, but as I point out frequently that still leaves nearly 4000 hours a year to devote to improving our lives in Tavistock and West Devon. I am a broad church when it comes to areas of interest, but confirm that housing is high on my priorities list. The money spent on investigating the activities of a few MPs in London would have paid for a whole streets of social & key worker housing across the country. Local business - the support and growth of - is the other big bee in my bonnet. Before the NHS role, I was a small business advisor and accountant on the border in Northern Ireland. Britain is uniquely blessed in the quality of its entrepreneurs and Tavistock even more so, but they need support. I would like to see Tavistock become a destination town for bus loads of happy shoppers. It is important to recognise and specialise in the areas that fall within a borough council remit rather than waste time and effort telling people you they will fix the world (and the NHS!!) I worry about London only when some action or decision they make impacts me negatively - we must focus on our own backyards as they are manageable.. Thanks you for reading this far, I do still like Shortbread biscuits and I do eat too many.
