Full statement

Things turned out well. Now, I’m lucky to be living here in such a welcoming community and to be enjoying our vibrant town.

The sad death of one of the councillors means there’s a by-election here. Whoever wins won’t change the political control of the council, so you can vote with your heart. I’m asking you to pick me.

I firmly believe that the job of a councillor is to be in the service of local people. I work in customer service engaging with people from every walk of life. In my spare time, I enjoy the local environment — I’m an amateur photographer and am often over at Paxton Pits.

My plan:

St Neots for all. Speak up for residents to minimise disruption over the town centre regeneration. Firm up plans for the Old Falcon Hotel and make sure that residents’ voices are heard over its future. Work with our directly elected Labour mayor for Cambridgeshire to improve our local buses.

Clamp down on antisocial behaviour. Lobby for more community policing here. We all deserve to feel safe at home, at work in and in our daily lives. Make sure the Council takes prompt action over fly-tipping.

Caring for the environment. I’m passionate about wildlife conservation and have a degree in animal science. Everyone should have easy access to open spaces and nature. I’d love to be able to help deliver the Council’s Climate Action Plan working towards a net zero Huntingdonshire.

Affordable, decent homes. I’ve had experience of housing insecurity, so I know just how important a stable home is. I want to see more help for tenants to stand up to bad landlords. I’ll always back affordable homes to rent or buy in any new developments. Let’s keep up the council’s strong record of delivering affordable homes over the past two years.

Community wealth building. It’s important that people have good, local jobs. The council can help through the Local Plan and e.g working with Housing Associations to improve local homes. Promoting the visitor economy especially if the new Universal Studios goes ahead.

I have a syndrome that causes me frequent dislocations, heart palpitations and general aches and pains. I have lived experience of SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). I know how the right support means that people like me can be successful. It has made me into a very determined and pragmatic person. These are qualities I would bring to being a councillor.

And remember, you’ll soon be able to pass judgement on how well I’ve worked for you as the role is up for re-election in less than 20 months.
