Statement to voters
I’m Paul Bristow.
Full statement
I’m proud to be from Peterborough and proud to be your candidate for our city’s next MP. This general election is hugely important. We have failed by Labour MPs too often. This time, let’s get it done.
Peterborough voted to leave the European Union. But MPs keep voting for delay. It's time to get Brexit done and move on as a country. Only a vote for Paul will break the deadlock in Westminster. If Paul wins, Boris Johnson can finish the job by January. Let's get his deal through, with the jobs and investment that Peterborough needs.
Paul will demand our fair share of Cambridgeshire's new police officers. Peterborough needs more officers to get action on crime hotspots and anti-social behaviour. We also need to tackle the local drugs problem. An extra 62 police officers are being recruited already. This includes officers to tackle rural crime.
Paul's transport priority is to dual the A47. This would ease local congestion around Thorney and Eye, while unlocking economic growth for the city. There is already a coalition of groups in favour from Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Suffolk. Dualling the A47 has solid evidence behind it. Now we just need the funding committed to our stretch of the project. Paul will lobby government ministers relentlessly to make it happen.
We can make Peterborough's schools better. Paul will prioritise higher standards, using the extra money. Every child deserves the best possible start. Local parents also need a choice of good school places. With extra money on its way for every pupil in every school, our headteachers can target better results.
Our communities are regularly used as dumping grounds for litter and waste. We need to clean up our city. Paul has a zero-tolerance attitude to flytipping, graffiti and litter. He has reported dumped waste across Peterborough. Residents shouldn't have to live with these ongoing problems. A new approach is needed, building on the stricter fines from the Council's enforcement team. We need more CCTV, more licensing and more bulky waste collections for households.
