Statement to voters

I was born and brought up in Greenock and now live in Gourock with my partner.

Full statement

My family have deep roots in Inverclyde and Renfrewshire. My mum was a nurse and midwife at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. My dad and uncle ran youth clubs in Renfrewshire in the 1970s and 1980s. My grandad was the union treasurer at Scott's shipyard in the 1950s and 1960s.

My parents gave me the best start in life, taught me the value of hard work and the importance of service to others. When I was 17, I left Greenock for Ghana and spent half a year working with a charity there. It was an eye-opening experience that shaped my politics. I was lucky to have a great education and ended up at Oxford University.

After I graduated in 2007 I worked in the public sector and then for VSO UK, an international development charity. Since then, I've spent the last decade working on national campaigns and in 2017 I started my own business.

Since 2022, I've been the Labour Councillor for Gourock. Every day I see the great potential that exists in our communities, but also how too many people are being held back. I'm standing for election because I want to continue to give something back to the communities that made me who I am today and to elect a Labour Government that can change our country for the better.
