Peter Aldous was the Member of Parliament for Waveney from 2010 to 2024.

He is now standing as the Conservative Candidate for the new Lowestoft constituency.

Peter was born in Ipswich and has lived in Suffolk his whole life and from 1971 on the family farm outside Halesworth. Having studied Land Management at the University of Reading, he worked as a chartered surveyor in Ipswich and Norwich for 27 years.

He served as a Waveney District Councillor from 1999 to 2002 and as a Suffolk County Councillor from 2001 to 2005, becoming Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group. Peter was first elected as MP for Waveney in 2010 and he retained the seat in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

In Parliament, Peter’s work has focused on a range of issues relevant to the local area, including energy policy, the promotion of local infrastructure projects such as the Gull Wing Bridge, town centre regeneration, fishing and skills and further education policy. He also guided the Mobile Homes Act [2013] through Parliament as a Private Members Bill.

Outside work, Peter follows a variety of sports, including football, cricket and horse racing. He has been a season ticket holder at Ipswich Town for many years and is President of the Adult Section at Kirkley and Pakefield. He is also a keen squash player.
