Statement to voters
I wish to represent the diverse, dynamic community which comprises Arbury.
Full statement
Since being elected in May 2013 as County Councillor for West Chesterton (a division Labour had not won since 1967) I have worked hard in the interests of residents, and wish to continue to do so in Arbury which, under the new boundaries, now incorporates parts of West Chesterton as well as Castle and Kings Hedges. I live in Arbury, in Hale Street, and amongst other roles am Chair of the Cambridge Joint Area Committee, Labour Spokesperson on Highways, and a member of Constitution & Ethics, Planning and Highways & Community Infrastructure Committees.
I've led and supported successful campaigns, pushing for more funding for road and pavement repairs, and keeping streetlights on. I led the development of a Cambridge and Cambridgeshire Parking Policy to reduce pressure on parking in residential areas in Cambridge City and as Chair of Milton Road Local Liaison Forum (LLF) am leading the process to ensure the best outcome for Milton Road from the City Deal proposals.
I studied at Cambridge University, am a Barrister admitted to practice in all Australian jurisdictions (states and territories), am a member of the Victorian Bar (clerk Paul Holmes), have been called to the English Bar and am a member of the Inner Temple. I also teach law (Constitutional & Administrative Law, Criminal Law and Sex, Gender & Minorities and Law) at the University of Buckingham.
