Stuart Hughes's policies
Statement to voters
Stuart Hughes is the County Councillor for Sidmouth and East Devon District Councillor for Sidmouth Sidford.
Full statement
Stuart has held both of those offices for over 30 years. He now also holds the position of Cabinet Member for Highways on DCC.
Stuart is campaigning hard in Sidmouth to improve the school crossing at Sidmouth CE Primary School, maintain Sidmouth's street lighting and support local businesses.
In 2023, Stuart committed to continue opposing any development of the Sidford Business Park land, which could have a detrimental effect on the quality of life for local residents through increased traffic. These proposals would also lead to the eventual destruction of the green wedge between Sidford and Sidbury, which Stuart is committed to maintaining.
Recently, Stuart has installed more grit bins across the Sid Valley and is looking at working with stakeholders to create 20mph zones and maintain the Sidbury to Sidford multi-use trail.
On May 1st 2025, Stuart is seeking re-election to Devon County Council and he would appreciate your support. He will be out and about campaigning with the team in the coming months and he looks forward to meeting you.
