Statement to voters
As a candidate in the forthcomming DCC election, here is my track record.
Full statement
I have been a Town Councillor in Ivybridge since 2017 where I have supported the plans for an Aldi up near the rugby club, new play equipment in Victoria Park and McAndrews Field, Ivybridge Brewing Company when it first started in the Town Hall and two hours free parking in town. I also kick-started IvyFridge (the Community Fridge project combatting food waste) which is now thriving. I voted against the 30% rise in our council tax as this is too mucch for many.
Here is my list of priorites:-
A direct bus service between Ivybridge and Derriford Hospital and later night buses to and from Plymouth.
Make the case for a junction on the A38 at the rugby club end of town, or a town centre by-pass.
Get a Children’s Centre back in Ivybridge and secure funding for Youth Services to be re-instated at pre 2010 levels.
Reject council tax, rent and service charge increases to make up for cuts in central funding. Vote instead for Devon County Council to use its reserves and prudential borrowing powers to avoid making cuts in their 2025-2026 budget. Demand from central government the additional funding needed to make up any shortfalls.
Oppose any cuts and closures to Devon County Council services or their privatisation or transfer.
Support democratically decided local Climate Emergency plans that create new employment, build flood defences, reduce emissions and improve air quality and the local environment, while protecting the jobs, pay and living standards of all workers.
Campaign for Devon County Council to divest from all commercial and financial organisations, including the current pension scheme, which contribute to climate and environmental damage or human rights abuses.
