Statement to voters

I have lived in and around Grantham for the majority of my life and was educated at the King's School in Grantham before attending university and working in London and the south east for a number of years before moving back to Grantham in the mid 1990s.

Full statement

I have degrees in both Law and History and a Masters degree in History. I an now retired but spent nearly forty years working as an accountant in both the private and public sectors.
I am the only candidate who lives in the area which I have done for the past sixteen years and for which I have represented on LCC for the past ten years. I am also a Barrowby parish councillor and a South Kesteven District Council councillor.
I am the only local candidate standing for Grantham Barrowby on 1st May and I am standing on my record of achievements that I have brought for the benefit of the local residents in the area over the past ten years.
Throughout my tenure, I have worked tirelessly with local Parish Councils and residents to address key concerns, particularly around highways, localised flooding, and public rights of way.
Some of the significant achievements during my time in office include:
• Securing Funding for Road Improvements: I successfully obtained funding for crucial road improvements on Cliff Road at Woolsthorpe by Belvoir and the Allington to Sedgebrook Road.
• Addressing Parking Issues: I implemented double yellow lines outside Walton Academy in Grantham to resolve local residents’ parking concerns caused by inconsiderate parking by parents.
• Major Road Resurfacing Projects: I secured over £2 million for the total resurfacing of Dysart Road in Grantham.
• Flood Mitigation Efforts: I collaborated with LCC Highways to address flooding issues under the railway bridge between Allington and Sedgebrook, ensuring the road remains accessible during heavy rains. Additionally, I have been working with LCC Highways and Anglian Water to tackle localised flooding in both Allington and Sedgebrook.
• Protecting Public Rights of Way: I have been actively involved in resolving issues on the Viking Way between Allington and Sedgebrook, where 4x4 vehicles were damaging the footpath. Working with both villages and the Public Rights of Way Team, we have secured £850,000 for security measures and restoration work, and the section of the Viking Way will be downgraded to prevent motorised vehicle use.
Beyond these projects, I have undertaken considerable private casework on behalf of local residents, ensuring their voices are heard and their issues addressed. I regularly attend all local Parish Council meetings and serve as a Barrowby Parish Councillor, maintaining close ties with our community.
Looking ahead, there are several challenges that I am currently working on to secure solutions. One of the primary concerns is road safety on the stretch of the A52 passing through the Division, which has seen numerous accidents over the years. I am collaborating with local Parish Councillors, residents, and Councillors from Bottesford and Belvoir in Leicestershire, who face similar issues. I have had several introductory meetings with all parties involved and have spoken to Gareth Davies MP, our local Member of Parliament, who is raising these issues with National Highways. I recently, as I have previously reported on, had a meeting with the local National Highways Manager to discuss these issues and look at options for providing solutions to these issues.
Additionally, I have been campaigning for safety improvements at the A1/A52 junction and will continue to push for further necessary work. Other ongoing highways issues include resurfacing on Wyville Road and Gorse Lane, which I am committed to addressing.
As we look towards the future, I am dedicated to continuing my work to improve our local infrastructure, address environmental concerns, and ensure the well-being of all residents in the Grantham Barrowby Division.
My three campaign pledges are to:
1. Keep your Council Tax low. Lincolnshire County Council already has the third lowest Council Tax of any County Council and I am committed to keeping it as low as possible and ensure the best value for your money because it is your money that the County Council are custodians of.
2. Securing additional funding for local roads and flood mitigation. To address local concerns regarding speeding traffic, road safety and the impact of local developments on local road capacity.
3. To work hard on your behalf and to best represent your interests and to address your local concerns and issues.
I ask for your support in re-electing me as your local County Councillor on Thursday 1st May, so we can continue to build a better, stronger community together.
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
