Statement to voters
I have lived in West Berkshire for 14 years.
Full statement
I am chair of trustees for Eight Bells for Mental Health Newbury, and the Green Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Newbury.
Having experienced homelessness personally, I co-wrote last year’s report on rough sleeping in West Berkshire, and helped to open the night shelter for homeless people because existing provision was clearly inadequate.
I served in the Royal Air Force for nearly 20 years, and have been subsequently employed as a care worker. I have three sons and two grandsons. I am a keen cyclist, and cycled across the Pyrenees last summer to raise money for Eight Bells for Mental Health.
I launched the petition calling on West Berkshire to follow the lead of other councils, declare a climate emergency, and produce a strategy to become carbon neutral by 2030. As a result, West Berkshire is obliged to hold a debate on the subject after the new council takes office in May.
