Statement to voters

I am seeking re-election for Newcastle Central.

Full statement

I was born in Wallsend, grew up in North Kenton and live in Newcastle Central. I have been immensely proud to represent my city and to stand up in Parliament for the interests of the people I grew up with. Helping my constituents has been my primary aim and each month I publish on my website summaries of the casework I and my team have dealt with (www.chionwurahmp.com) I am particularly proud of the work I did to keep the Richardson Unit open at the RVI, and also campaigning against Wonga sponsoring Newcastle United, part of a process that led to

these companies being properly regulated.

As a Chartered Engineer, I am passionate about the difference technology can make to people's lives -- with the right Government! As Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy, Science and Innovation I have worked with colleagues to develop policies for a Green Industrial Revolution, which will bring thousands of jobs to Newcastle and the North East building on our proud tradition of manufacturing.

I want to continue this work, and move the centre of gravity of our industry and prosperity Northwards. We need to resolve this Brexit crisis, but for the country not for the rich, with people having the final say. We need a Green Industrial Revolution, to rebuild the country after a decade of austerity, and to protect our vital public services.
