Stewart McDonald was born in Castlemilk and still lives in the south side of Glasgow. He has worked in a varied range of jobs, most recently in the constituency office of the local MSP.

He was elected as the MP for Glasgow South in May 2015 with a majority of over 12,000. He was a member of the Transport Select Committee.
