Statement to voters

I'm standing in this election to deliver change across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.

Full statement

I know the past few years have been tough for everyone. That's why I have a plan to drive growth and create opportunities for everyone in our region.

My number one priority will be ensuring there are secure, well-paid jobs available in every part of our region. And I'll build the transport links, homes and services to go with them. I'll make sure that everyone has access to the training they need. I'll make Cambridgeshire and Peterborough a place where you can have a career, not just a job.

I got into politics after seeing my dad struggle to get by after he fell ill with ME. I didn’t want anyone else to go through that and I dedicated myself to serving our community.

I have a track record of delivering for local people. As a teacher, I taught Archeology and History and provided pastoral care and support for my students.

As deputy mayor, I have overseen the introduction of the highly successful Tiger Bus Pass (£1 tickets for under 25s) as well as taking back control of our buses.

In my role as leader of Cambridge City Council I was in charge of the council house building initiative and oversaw Cambridge’s COVID response.

Being elected to serve you as Mayor and delivering change for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough would be the greatest privilege of my life.

Vote for me, Anna Smith on Thursday 1st of May.
