Statement to voters
Hello, I’m Mocky Khan, and I’m standing to be your next Oxfordshire County Councillor for Didcot South.
Full statement
For over a decade, I’ve proudly stood up for Didcot residents as a passionate community champion. I believe actions speak louder than words — and I’ve never been one to sit on the sidelines.
Here’s just a snapshot of what I’ve delivered for our community:
- Built a brand-new sports pavilion to boost local leisure
- Created a splash pad for families and young children
- Refurbished playgrounds with inclusive equipment for children with special needs
- Reopened and upgraded Willowbrook Leisure Centre with energy-efficient improvements
- Helped make Didcot Civic Hall one of Oxfordshire’s first COVID-19 vaccination centres
- Led the successful campaign for Civil Parking Enforcement to tackle illegal and dangerous parking
- Challenged the County Council (Lib Dem and Green-led) to release nearly £300 million in infrastructure funding for Didcot
- Saved our local allotments from being sold off to developers
- Fought to protect residents affected by flooding
- Rescued King Alfred Drive Community Centre from closure — now a thriving hub and home to Citizens Advice
- Co-founded the Didcot Community Kitchen, serving hot meals every Friday (yes, I cook the spicy curry myself!)
- Served as school governor for Willowcroft and now Didcot Girls’ School
- Supported local charities as a trustee, board and grant panel member, and advisor — including Play2Give, Didcot Allotment Society, and The Powerhouse Fund
- Became a FixMyStreet “super-user,” reporting potholes, blocked drains, and broken streetlights
- Raised the profile and visibility of the Mayor of Didcot role
But I’m not done yet. If elected, I’ll keep fighting for what Didcot needs and deserves:
- Push for two lanes on Hitchcock Way to reduce congestion and ease gridlock
- Support a new GP surgery in Great Western Park
- Campaign for a Minor Injuries Unit at Didcot Community Hospital
- Demand better planning: no more homes without infrastructure and affordable housing
- Continue standing up for our NHS, trade unions, and welfare system
- Champion our young people, local businesses, and education
- Fight for bold climate action and ensure underrepresented voices are heard
I live in Didcot with my wife and two young daughters. I’m a Chartered Marketer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and currently halfway through a PhD researching culture, identity, religion, and young people.
I understand the challenges our community faces — because I live them too. I believe decisions about Didcot should be made by people who care deeply about its future.
So if you want someone who shows up, speaks up, and gets things done, then I’d be honoured to have your support on 1st May 2025.
Vote Mocky Khan — a proven voice for Didcot South.
