Statement to voters
My priorities as mayor will be: Scrap the Mayoral system which puts all the decision making in the hands of one person.

Give back power to the local councillors who are more approachable.
Young people must be the priority – the council needs to run its own apprenticeship schemes for school leavers and employ staff directly to run council services – stop the contracting out to developers and multi-national corporations: Local jobs for local people. More resources for youth clubs to ensure that youngsters have positive experiences rather than being alienated and drifting into drugs, alcohol, gangs and violence.
The council should open under-5s playgroups which benefit the toddlers and, importantly, the parents, who learn good parenting skills from each other and are less isolated.
Climate Change: Take effective measures to combat climate change by making insulation of our homes a priority, cutting rising energy bills AND saving the planet. Hackney’s target of becoming carbon neutral by 2040 is way behind other London boroughs such as Lewisham. Blocking roads in Low Traffic Neighbourhoods just increases pollution elsewhere.
