Bill lives with his wife Milly in Upton Bishop in Herefordshire.

Their three children, Rosie, Jack and Toby, were all born in Hereford Hospital. Bill’s family has strong roots in the area, with Special Metals Wiggin Ltd having been founded by Bill’s great-grandfather.

Bill’s interests include farming and country sports. He keeps a small herd of Hereford cattle and chickens on his farm.

Before his election for Leominster in 2001, Bill worked in finance, and was an Officer in the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Royal Yeomanry (TA).

During the Conservatives’ time in Opposition, Bill served as a Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, and also as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales. After the 2010 General Election, Bill was appointed a Minister in the Government Whips’ Office.

In the 2015 General Election, Bill was elected with a majority of 19,996 in North Herefordshire, the largest majority the constituency had ever seen to that date.

During the European Union Referendum of 2016, Bill was the Chief Whip for the Leave Campaign. The British public voted to leave the EU on 23rd June 2016.

In the 2017 General Election, Bill was once again elected, again with a record majority of 21,602.

In Parliament, Bill served as the Chairman of the Committee of Selection, as well as being a member of the Liaison Committee, which scrutinised the Prime Minister’s leadership.

Bill has been an active campaigner in Parliament, having secured recognition for female munitions workers from World War 1 in 2016, and in 2017 having put pressure on the government to increase the maximum prison sentence for animal cruelty. The government announced in October 2017 that they would increase the prison sentence to 5 years, as Bill had been campaigning for.

In December 2019, Sir Bill was re-elected with 63% of the vote and a majority of 24,856.
