Statement to voters

Will you be glad to see the back of the Tories – but have no enthusiasm for Starmer’s Labour ? Do you feel like nothing is working properly – and yet the rich are getting richer all the time? Do you feel let down by all the main parties on Gaza, on the infected blood and Post Office scandals, on housing, on the NHS and public services? Starmer’s Labour will be the next government, but here you have a chance to tell them what you think by voting for a socialist working-class fighter instead of another career politician.

Full statement

That is important because, while millions of us will be rejoicing to see the back of Sunak and his cronies, Starmer’s Labour isn’t going to act in the interests of the working-class majority. Instead it will defend the profits of a few at the top, while overseeing continued austerity for the rest of us. Starmer has also made clear that his foreign policy, including the horrors suffered by Palestinians in Gaza, will be the same as the Tories. That is why a working-class fightback is going to be needed under the next government, just as it has been under the Tories. A fighting trade union and anti-war movement is going to be essential. But it’s also vital that the working class starts to create its own political voice, a new party that stands up for us. And a new way of running the economy to benefit the majority, not just the billionaires. That’s why Socialist Party members are standing and fighting here, alongside other workers, trade unions and anti-war activists across the country, as part of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC). To give a socialist alternative in the general election and help build the working-class fightback we will need after.
