Statement to voters
Hi, I'm Laura Edie and was born and raised in Dartford and I am now raising my family here.
Full statement
I work in a special educational needs (SEND) setting.
I have been a borough councillor for Newtown since 2019 and am a passionate advocate for my community. I first became involved in politics through community projects, and continue to be active in organising activities such as community safety groups, leading Litter-picks and organising collections for a local homeless charity.
I care deeply about this area and continue to push for improvements including campaigning to have: the cameras monitored at the blue star roundabout (to help reduce the traffic chaos and pollution), cleaner streets, against irresponsible HMO landlords and for warm affordable homes, balanced with caring for the environment.
On this note, I set up and co-lead the successful grassroots campaign to Save Swanscombe Peninsula. I was delighted that we had a victory in January in seeing off a billionaire corporation and protecting not only a precious green space to escape but also a nature haven!
The lack of equality and unequal distribution of wealth has been a driving force for me. At this time of deepening inequality and continued austerity, we need someone who will stand up for their community.
I helped organise a protest to protect our democratic right to vote. Despite the best efforts of local Conservatives and the government's proposals, the elections are thankfully going ahead!
I would love the opportunity to extend my reach and am well placed to win. Please vote Green on May 1st so I can be your strong, independent voice for Dartford North East.
