Full statement

Your Conservative council has achieved a great deal in the last 4 years:
West Berkshire is a great place to live and work and has been voted one of the top 6 places to live in England.
Unemployment is at a record low in West Berkshire and we’re one of the top 5 areas for economic growth in the UK.
95% of schools in West Berkshire are rated good or outstanding by Ofsted, with 98% of pupils allocated a school choice of their preference.
West Berkshire Council have invested £44 million in the Padworth Recycling Centre, which is now open from 8am to 6pm every day.
Over the last 4 years we have invested more than £1.5 million in Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust so that our green spaces are expertly managed.
The council have invested £4 million in superfast broadband, bringing the fastest and most extensive rural broadband in the UK, with speeds faster than many parts of London.
We’ve secured extra funding from central government to fix potholes and resurfaced 145 miles of roads in the district since 2015.
West Berkshire has successfully lobbied to keep over £1.9 million of business rates within the district – keeping your money to be invested in your services.

I know that many of you want to know more about where your council tax is going and how it's spent, and I want to make sure that information is easy to obtain and understand.
It's important that council tax is kept under strict control, with no return to the double-digit council tax rises when our opposition ran the council.
As a Conservative, my instinct is always to keep tax as low as possible, with the tax we do raise being spent wisely.
West Berkshire Council has seen its funding from central government reduce to zero - we are now a fully self-funding council, and thanks to the efficient Conservative administration we have managed to negotiate this transition well - a great achievement!
Make sure you vote for continued prudent management of your council - Vote Conservative on May 2nd.
