Statement to voters

As Leader of the Opposition on Lambeth Council, I know how much our community in Dulwich & West Norwood needs a strong local champion who can hold Labour in power to account.

Full statement

This dreadful Conservative government is finally on its way out. They have run the NHS into the ground, and caused a cost-of-living crisis with rents and mortgages going through the roof. But Labour are letting people down too. Labour Lambeth Council is the fifth most complained about in the country, and - as recent events in Brockwell Park show - they just don’t care about our environment. Meanwhile, Labour Southwark is cutting social care and library services.

Keir Starmer talks about ‘change’ but is sticking rigidly to Tory spending plans. He says he won’t even do anything about the two-child benefit cap that’s plunged families into poverty, won’t invest more in public services, and will keep Britain’s broken voting system.

I will listen to and stand up for residents when those in power won’t. I already has a record of action as Leader of the Opposition on Lambeth Council, who have let damp and mould run rampant in its housing stock whilst scandalously over half the Labour councillors collectively take home over £500,000 of Council Tax-payers’ money in allowances.

I will be a powerful voice for women’s rights. My proudest achievements have been to secure changes in policy in Lambeth to end violence against women and girls, reduce period poverty, and improve maternal and neonatal care.

My top priorities if elected will be:

>> Take action to rescue the NHS: the Lib Dems will recruit 8,000 more GPs to make sure you can see a named doctor when you need to and get mental health support into every school to help our children every step of the way

>> Fix the housing crisis, including building 380,000 homes each year including 150,000 social homes

>> Tackle the climate emergency head-on: no more greenwashing!

>> Get Britain back on the road to EU membership by rebuilding our trading relationship without nearest neighbours.

>> Introducing proportional representation so every vote in our country counts.
