Statement to voters

Cardiff is a city of culture with a vibrant community and a rich heritage.

Full statement

There is no other place in the world like it. Yet, outside the centre, there are too few green spaces and those that do exist are under threat from sprawling development. Streets and underpasses regularly flood with surface water and the Taff is treated as a sewer by water companies who build their pumping stations in parks.

People in Cardiff North are not being listened to.

My background is in Community, Education and Sport. A qualified teacher and award-winning coach and business owner, I’ve spent my whole life helping others and lifting their voices up to be heard. From leading teams to national titles to setting up four community clubs in South Wales, I know how to work with people to get things done. In the last year alone, I’ve successfully campaigned to restore bus routes; helped to run events for disabled athletes; and been part of a team fundraising for Women’s Charities. Much of my work has also involved working with Refugees, teaching English to Afghan women and witnessing first hand the heartache of being separated from family by borders and bureaucracy.

I’m so proud of the people of Wales. That we have the heart, empathy and vision to welcome those fleeing war and persecution - and I’m proud too that the Green Party has been one of the most determined voices calling for an immediate Ceasefire and release of all hostages in Gaza.

At the end of it all, I’m an accidental politician. Here because of the hope and trust I see in my children’s eyes each morning rather than because of any grand ambition. We cannot let greed, inequality and selfish short termism be our legacy. Austerity has failed. The pursuit of endless wealth on a finite planet has failed. The answers – and a bright, brilliant future - are out there. Only waiting for a party with the political will to enact them.

Your vote is special. It matters. Please lend it to me so that we can work together to build something better for the generations to come.
