Statement to voters

I’m Thomas Ron and moved to Cambridge 13 years ago from New York City and since then have been delighted to call it my home.

Full statement

I have found Cambridge to have a strong sense of community and to be a place where we look after each other and support one another, and that is why upon finishing my PhD I decided to return to this city and work here. I have been since then a frequent visitor to the Friendship Cafés and Warm Rooms across the ward and have taken a strong interest in the great community in Queen Edith’s.

Community spaces is a topic that is very close to my heart and a key issue in Queen Edith’s, where throughout this winter we have seen many bodies step up to provide warmth and offset the cost of living crisis. I want the council to continue helping those bodies and work with them to ensure that they can continue providing this vital service. I also want to use the city council’s new funds for community buildings to provide more hubs for organisations to organise community work.

Due to our many arterial roads traffic and road quality are serious issues here in Queen Edith’s. I will work closely with the county council’s highways committee to report potholes and ensure they are filled properly, not with quick fixes that come undone in days.

I’m a firm environmentalist and therefore will make protecting the Nine Wells chalk stream a priority for this council and cracking down hard on the disgraceful fly tipping that is going on there. I’ll be ensuring that the reserve is protected and that new housing does not disturb the wildlife there. Queen Edith’s is rightly proud of our green spaces and deserves a councillor who will protect them
